If you are lover of good healthy food Portugal is the right choice.

All over Portugal you can find many types of food with different preparation methods. Each region is specialized in certain delightful dishes which some we’ll recommend. Prepare yourself do gain a few pounds but also a life time or nice memories. You’ll dream about Portuguese food all your life.

In the Algarve the speciality is sea food and fish. Cataplana is a special pot to cook vegetables with fish or meat. The most famous and traditional one is Sea Food Cataplana done with shrimps, crab, mussels, monk fish, potatoes, pepper, garlic, onion, tomato and some special spices. The food is done in its own steam.

There is also the Algarvian Caldeirada de Peixe which is a stew done with many local fish combined with potatoes, garlic, onion, tomato, pepper and also lots of spice. It’s done without water because the water contain in the fish will cook it self.

The 1001 Portuguese ways to make cod fish can be found anywhere and are all tasty.

The tuna fish is also special in the Algarve. Usually the tuna fish stakes are done in a clay pot with lots of onion, olive oil and white wine.

There are also in the Algarve lots of other fish and meat dishes which are wonderful, and it’s also a good option to try the local grilled fresh fish (ex: sea brass or sardines) and nice grilled Portuguese pork and cow stakes with some boiled vegetables.

The pepper cream stakes, tartar stakes and the mushrooms cream stakes are also a tradition and a must a have.

You can also try the mountains traditional feijoada (stew with mainly beans, vegetables and pork meat) and Granada (stew with mainly pees, vegetables and pork meat) sometimes with rice inside.

There are lots of different goat and cow cheese, ham and sausage to take as appetisers with home baked bread, natural cow butter and southern tasty olives.

In the Algarve there is a wide range of traditional almond and carob sweets and liquor usually served in the end on the meal. You can also find nice puddings and cakes.

In the other regions of there are many special traditional dishes and sweets to try. Mostly they are the same remaining the main difference in the cooker and the preparation methods.

The Portuguese wines are worldwide well known and can be found anywhere at reasonable prices. No matters from Alentejo wines or Douro or Ribatejo mostly are good and tell their own story. Usually white and green wine is to be taken with fish and must be fresh. Red wine usually is to be taken with meat and must be at a normal temperature.
